The origins of the family and the very first day in the workshop, more than a century ago, marked the beginning of a story deeply intertwined with the local territory, a culture of craftsmanship and work, and the community to which the company belongs. Calzaturificio Zamberlan did not take root in the sands of a desert or amid the ice of the poles. Instead, it grew within a landscape shaped by beauty, roads, schools, trades, and centuries-old traditions. Just as farming, woodworking, silk production, metalworking, stonecraft, and wool processing have long been part of this region’s identity, so too did Zamberlan emerge from this rich cultural fabric. The work of industrial pioneers such as Rossi and Marzotto later enriched that same fabric with skills, networks of customers and suppliers, services, and transportation systems. Within this environment, generations of people have recognized, and continue to recognize, their industrial landscape, the spirit embodied in the products made there, and the cultural heritage that surrounds them. That heritage is also composed of language, sensibilities, myths, entrepreneurship, and the distinctive geography of the region. Just as the Little Dolomites helped shape the Zamberlan identity, these elements fostered a strong connection between the products created and the land from which they emerged. The traces left by a community through time are continually reshaped by those who seek to give form to their dreams and create a world in their own image. This is precisely what three generations of the Zamberlan family have done: transforming their closeness to nature first into a craft, and later into an expression of beauty within the broader story of Made in Italy and its tradition of industrial design. At its core, however, this remains the story of a value system built on family, responsibility, reputation, local identity, and a commitment to remaining proudly small. These are defining characteristics of an Italian economic culture that stands in contrast to social anonymity, profit at any cost, the gigantism of multinational corporations, and detachment from place. It is a system of values deeply rooted in a world where, to paraphrase Italian writer Luigi Meneghello, “We made things ourselves far more than we do today; objects possessed a distinct personality, and you could feel the hand of the craftsman who created them. Ideas certainly came from elsewhere, but they were absorbed and made our own through direct work.”

English Version

A World Made of Shoes

When Marco arrived in Schio, he unknowingly laid the foundations for what would become one of the oldest footwear manufacturers in the world to remain continuously owned by the founding family.
