Hiking Boots: Tofane, Ten Years of Pure Class

The majestic massif of the Belluno Dolomites, with its three peaks soaring past three thousand meters, could only lend its name to the absolute top of the Zamberlan range: the Tofane model.

A backpacking boot that for ten years has traveled on the feet of the most demanding mountain enthusiasts, accompanying them on their explorations and satisfying their desire to wear a product of immense value.

Tofane: The Secret to Its Comfort Lies in the Norwegian Welted Construction

The Tofane model represents the absolute pinnacle of Zamberlan’s artisan craftsmanship. This manufacturing process requires significantly more steps and the expert hands of men and women who, using knowledge passed down through generations, successfully shape a boot with truly unique characteristics.

The Norwegian technique, as the name suggests, originates from northern European footwear production methods. In these regions, the harsh climate, heavy snowfall, and wild terrains demand maximum attention to waterproofing, all-weather durability, and comfort. This necessity led human ingenuity to design a manual double-stitch that, by sealing the upper to the sole unit, ensures the foot always stays dry.

Combined with this is the need for long-lasting durability—a promise kept through the exclusive use of premium-quality leathers and the fact that the boot is fully resolable. This last factor is highly important, as it allows for the replacement of the part most subject to wear while keeping the broken-in shape of the upper completely unaltered. Since this operation involves only the removal of the outsole, it leaves the midsole intact, preserving the exact curves and contours worn into the boot by the foot.

In keeping with tradition, Zamberlan has preserved this identical methodology, offering a hiking boot model that fully satisfies all these construction and quality requirements. The “Tofane” thus becomes an emblem of the company’s “Handmade Philosophy,” embodying the core values that have always formed the Zamberlan family “credo”: manufacturing footwear with the passion and care that only an artisan can provide.

How the Norwegian Welted Construction Method Is Executed

Crafting the Tofane requires two precious and rare elements: the hands of an artisan and time.

Even today, these hiking boots are produced in the Zamberlan factory in Pievebelvicino (Italy), thanks to the skill of people who know every single secret of this fascinating and ancient Norwegian method. Every pair is shaped individually, requiring significantly more time compared to mass production done with industrial machinery.

The unique aspect of this technique lies in the double stitch:

  • The first stitch secures the upper to the insole;

  • The second stitch secures the upper to the midsole, onto which the outsole is subsequently cemented.

This intricate interwoven stitching becomes the hallmark certifying the premium prestige of the footwear, as well as a synonym for maximum comfort.

Tofane: The Ideal Hiking Boots for Those Whis Aim High

The boot features a classic, understated profile that evokes the style standards of the past.

The leather used for the upper is full-grain Tuscan leather, the ultimate expression of “real leather.” This premium material is handcrafted without the use of chromium, offering a distinctly silky feel to the touch. The suppleness of this leather provides an excellent aesthetic result and complete comfort right out of the box.

The Hydrobloc® water-repellent treatment serves as an additional guarantee of the boot's performance in any weather condition.

The upper ankle zone features a flex point utilizing Flex-System® technology, which stabilizes the ankle while wrapping it in a soft lining. This design feature also helps prevent friction that can cause chafing or blisters.

On the front, a rubber toe cap protects the toes from impacts against rocks and stones.

The Zamberlan® Vibram® NorTrack outsole delivers elite grip and traction on any type of terrain, combined with a cushioned, smooth stride.

For us at Zamberlan, the Tofane model carries an important and profound meaning. It mirrors the soul of a company that for over ninety years has searched for that distinct edge that makes every single product unique and special.

We proudly celebrate ten years since the launch of the Tofane hiking boots, confident they still have many miles left to travel.
